Number 4 is a different kind of song than I am used to writing. Most often, I build songs around a
line or two of chorus or verse that pop into my head. One or two lines that I just can't get
out of my head are usually enough to "sketch" out a tune. This song is different because
I built the song around a chord progression, rather than a melody. Its lyrics are about someone who is treated badly,
but likes something about it, and just can't pull himself away. This recording was the first time we ever played
it live (after just one rehearsal), and has all the "battle scars" (ie wrong notes and arrangement mistakes) that a new song should. As usual, Yell sucks.

Check out this rockin' raw version of this new song.
In fact, this song is so new that this is the first time we ever played it at a show.
The fans were into it! I believe it will become another one of our Pd songs that make it into heavy rotation.
I like it. It's fast, it's rocking, and there's a cool guitar counter melody that I play on the bridge.
Remember at the next Piper Downs show to request --I mean, BEG for Number 4!

Live Baby! That's what the Downs are all about! And the debut performance at that! Utterly ROCK!!!! bobby sucks too. |
Man, it felt good to play this one right from the start. It just felt right - the parts all melted together. And hey, we even practiced for this one! I expect this will make a quick rise to the top of the shout-out song requests... "NUMBER FOUR!!"
